Assoicate Professor - Christine Octaviani (Indonesia-Singapore)
Indonesian-born pianist Christine Octaviani started her musical education at the age of 4 under the tutelage of Tjindrawati Soesanto. She continued to study under Poh Kong Chong in Singapore, obtaining a distinction for her LTCL diploma (solo piano recital) and subsequently the FTCL diploma while she was a Chemical Engineering undergraduate at the National University of Singapore. She now holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a Masters in Music Performance from Trinity College of Music. Her teachers at Trinity College include Elena Riu, the late Simon Young and Margaret Fingerhut. Her interest in academics led her to obtain a distinction in the LMusTCL diploma for music theory. In recent years, she had gained the FLCM and her research paper, Understanding Beethoven: HisMaladies and Creative Genius led her to attain a distinction for the FRSM. Christine was an active member of the Piano Ensemble during her undergraduate years, working under the guidance of Timothy Ku and appearing regularly in piano duo performances. Apart from solo piano playing, she also collaborates actively with vocalists and instrumentalists and has given recitals in London, Barbezieux and Singapore. Based in Singapore, Christine is currently the Head of the Keyboard Department at Mandeville Conservatory of Music. She dedicates much of her time to teaching, where her students have had successes in music festivals and college auditions. Aside from teaching, Christine also develops music curricula for the Conservatory, organises and adjudicates music festivals and awards.
