This programme is designed for piano teachers who wish to attain the ARSM in Music Teaching – Piano, whether teaching in individual or group contexts.  The programme develops:

• clear pedagogical thinking

• confident professional communication

• authentic teaching practice aligned with examination expectations

It is most suitable for teachers who aspire to become professional music educators through structured, academically grounded instruction.

Yes, prior teaching experience is strongly preferred.Candidates should already be actively teaching or have recent teaching experience.nFresh performance diploma or degree graduates may apply, but must begin teaching and acquire students before the start of the programme. The programme is designed to help practising teachers refine, articulate, and professionalise their work.

Candidates are required to complete at least 90% of assignments and maintain 85% attendance to be awarded the Certificate of Course Completion by JMPA. Each assignment builds specific professional skills that are essential for later success and examination readiness.  Candidates who do not meet the assignment and attendance requirements will not be eligible for retake support privileges.

Should a candidate be unsuccessful in the examination, retake support will be provided for up to six months, with no additional course fees, provided the candidate has met the assignment and attendance requirements.  This support is offered to encourage growth and completion, not as a substitute for engagement during the programme.

For Unit 1A (Music Teaching in Practice):

• Assignments 1–6 are training videos (15 minutes each)

• Assignments 7 and 8 are submission-level recordings (30 minutes)

• From these, one final 30-minute video is selected for examination submission

Candidates are encouraged to attempt these final recordings 2–4 times, with feedback and guidance.

Yes. The programme includes a practical videography workshop, covering:

• camera positioning and framing

• lighting and sound basics

• clarity of visual and verbal communication

• relevant editing techniques.  The focus is on professional clarity, not cinematic production.

For Unit 1B (Music Teaching in Context) candidates will submit either:​

• a 2,500-word written submisson, or

• a 12.5-minute spoken presentation with visuals or clips

All submissions must be authentic, reflective, and professionally reasoned derived from all assignments of Unit 1B

Yes — ethically and responsibly.
Candidates will receive guidance on:

• using AI for research support

• structuring academic writing

• refining clarity and expression

However, all ideas, reflections, teaching examples, and professional values must be original and grounded in the personal teaching practice. 

Unit 2 prepares candidates for the structured conversation (Viva Voce) with an examiner.
The final months of the programme focus specifically to prepare students for exam submission and articulation skills.

Yes. Candidates will practice in guided discussions, peer exchanges and structured practice questions.
The aim is for candidates to feel confident, calm, and articulate, not rehearsed or scripted.

Graduates who demonstrate commitment and professionalism may:

• be recognised as alumni of the Academy

• be considered for referral opportunities to private students or music schools

• become part of a professional teaching community

Further alumni privileges will be announced separately.

This programme is NOT suitable for candidates seeking:

• last-minute coaching

• One- off or template-based submissions

• minimal engagement

It is designed for teachers who wish to study pedagogy professionally - to teach with knowledge and confidence with examination success as a natural outcome.

• Minimum qualification: ABRSM Grade 8 in piano or its equivalent

• at least 6 months of teaching experience with existing students  

Successful candidates will be informed prior to the course commencement in late March 2026.  In cases of unusual circumstances, a suitability interview will be conducted to ensure that the programme is the right fit for the candidate's goals and stage of development.
