1st Beethoven International Piano & Chamber Music Competition
RULES & REGULATIONS

All Contestants must abide by the following Rules:
Due to COVID-19 international travel restrictions still in place in Singapore at the point of which application opens, the organisers have decided that all judging rounds of this competition will be based on ONLINE format.
There are 4 Categories for PIANO SOLO and 2 categories for PIANO CHAMBER MUSIC The focus on Beethoven’s works require competitors in the PIANO SOLO categories to be well equipped to compete with repertoire for TWO rounds.
1. Submission dates for PIANO SOLO Categories – Junior, Youth, Collegiate, Artist are as follows:
Preliminary Round: Recordings for all PIANO SOLO categories for the preliminary rounds are to be submitted via video links with fees from 15th November 2021 to 28th February 2022. Performers will be judged on their standards of playing based on a grading system - on their technique and musical expression. Successful candidates who qualify into the FINAL Round will be informed within 2 weeks of their submission or latest by 7 March 2022.
Final Round: Successful candidates who qualify into the FINAL Round will need to send in recordings of their repertoire with video links and fees by Sunday, 20th March 2022, 5pm.
2. Submission dates for PIANO CHAMBER MUSIC Categories
There is only ONE Round for these categories. Application is opened from 15th November 2021 and the closing date for participants to send in their applications, video links and fees is 20th March2022, 5pm.
3. Contestants in the PIANO SOLO categories who do not qualify into the Final Round will receive a JMI Certificate of Participation with result transcript. 4. Participants may compete in different categories. For example, a 16-year old may compete both in the Youth Piano Solo Category and in the Youth Piano Chamber Category. Applicants of more than one category must complete separate application forms and pay the required fees separately. 5. No changes to the repertoire are allowed across all rounds and categories once the applications are received. 6. The decisions of the Jury are final and not subjected to review or appeal. 7. The organizers have the rights to combine categories if there are less than 10 participants/groups in any category. 8. There will be no refund of competition fees if a participant withdraws from the competition at any point. 9. Masterclasses: Contestants who qualified into the final rounds may also sign up for masterclasses to study with available professors from 29th to 31st March 2022. 10. Candidates will be judged using a system of points. Prizes awarded to all pianists and chamber groups will be based on the highest total number of points scored. 11.By submitting their application, all participants grant the organizer of the competition the right to publish personal details and use any videos for promotions. The organiser will hold all rights to contestants’ profiles, publicity material, video and audio recordings made over the entire competition period. Claims by third parties will not be acknowledged. The participants are not entitled to any financial compensation.
12.All participants must complete the ONLINE APPLICATION FORM and are required to pay the following application fees for different stages of the competition. Applications received without payment by the closing dates will be deemed as void.
Piano SoloCategory
Junior (ages 9 to 12) Preliminary: $80, Finals: $120
Youth (ages 13 to 17) Preliminary: $90, Finals: $135
Piano Solo with Concerto Categories
Collegiate (ages 17 to 24) Preliminary: $120, Finals: $180
Artist (from ages 25 to no upper age limit) Preliminary: $150, Finals: $200
Piano Chamber Music Categories
Youth Piano Chamber Category (no lower age limit, up to age 20) Finals: $180
Professional Piano Chamber Category (from ages 18 to no upper limit) Finals: $220
The Finals of the event will be LIVE streamed and covered on social media to audiences worldwide. The winner of the Beethoven Artist category (subject to Covid travel regulations only) will be invited to perform at the Victoria Concert Hall on 14 June 2022 in SHINE! Concerto in Perspective with Joyeux Sinfonietta.
