Associate Professor - Lynette Lim (Singapore) - Violin
Acclaimed violinist, Lynette Lim is one of the foremost violin pedagogues in Singaporean. After her return from the U.S. Lynette was instrumental in setting up the String Department at the LaSalle College of the Arts where she was Head of Strings for 6 years. Lynette was also the former Co-ordinator for Strings at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) where she conducted the NAFA String Ensemble and also coached chamber music. Today Lynette still teaches diploma and degree students from the University of the Arts- NAFA. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, she was the only violinist that year and one of the youngest in the history of the school to be awarded the Performer’s Certificate upon her graduation. Following that, she obtained her Master of Music degree, with Distinction from the Indiana University School of Music where she studied under the legendary Professor, Josef Gingold. Subsequently, as a doctoral student, Lynette was the teaching assistant to Professor Sylvia Rosenberg at Eastman. Lynette has performed in solo and chamber music in concert halls across the U.S., Germany and also Japan. She has also participated in renowned Music Festivals such as Aspen and Tanglewood. She is active in Singapore’s arts community, having served on advisory committees for the National Arts Council and as an external assessor for local concerts.
Lynette is committed to developing the next generation of excellent violinists in Singapore with many of her students winning top prizes at competitions such as the Andrea Postacchini International Competition (Italy), the Hong Kong International Youth Music Competition and the National Piano and Violin Competition (Singapore). Several others were finalists at competitions such as the Grumiaux and Kogan International Violin Competitions. Many of her protégés have been inspired to follow in her footsteps and are now enjoying successful musical careers.
